Inconel UNS N08800 alloy welded pipe for power generation

Inconel UNS N08800 alloy welded pipe for power generation
Inconel UNS N08800 (Incoloy 800) welded pipe is widely used in the power generation industry due to its excellent high-temperature strength, corrosion resistance, and oxidation resistance. Its composition of nickel, iron, and chromium makes it well-suited for critical components such as steam generator tubing, process piping, and heat exchangers in power plants, especially in moderate temperature ranges (up to 1100°F). The alloy also resists chloride stress corrosion cracking, a common symptom of high-temperature environments.
What is the UNS number for Inconel 800H?
UNS N08810
Incoloy alloy 800H (UNS N08810) has a carbon content of 0.05% to 0.10%, which is the upper limit of the 0.10% maximum carbon content specified for Incoloy alloy 800. The chemical composition limits for Incoloy alloy 800HT (UNS N08811) are more stringent, but still within the limits specified for Incoloy alloy 800H.

Why Inconel UNS N08800 is used in power generation
High-temperature performance: This alloy maintains its strength and structural integrity at elevated temperatures.
Corrosion resistance: It offers excellent resistance to oxidation, carburization, and sulfidation.
Chloride stress corrosion cracking (CSCC) resistance: The high nickel content prevents cracking in chloride-containing environments common in some power applications.
Durability: Its composition provides excellent resistance to general corrosion.
Weldability: Incoloy 800 can be welded using common stainless steel welding techniques.
Power generation applications
Steam generator piping: Used in nuclear power plants.
Heat exchangers: Widely used in a variety of power generation facilities.
Furnace components: Suitable for high-temperature process equipment in power plants.
Inconel 800 compared to 800H and 800HT
Inconel 800 (UNS N08800): A base alloy suitable for applications up to approximately 1100°F (593°C). Inconel 800H (UNS N08810): Its higher carbon content provides improved creep resistance and rupture strength at temperatures above 1100°F.
Inconel 800HT (UNS N08811): Its improved creep and stress-rupture resistance, along with carefully controlled aluminum and titanium content, make it an ideal choice for the most severe thermal conditions.
