INCONEL Alloy X-750

INCONEL Alloy X-750

INCONEL Alloy X-750 Overview

Uses: INCONEL Alloy X-750 is a material worth considering when a project requires excellent strength and corrosion resistance at elevated temperatures.

Key Features
Corrosion and Oxidation Resistance: INCONEL Alloy X-750 is popular for its corrosion and oxidation resistance at temperatures up to 1300°F, as well as its high strength.

Temperature Range: The alloy is also useful at extreme temperatures, up to 1800°F, but precipitation hardening is less effective in this higher temperature range.

Corrosion Resistance: The alloy exhibits good corrosion resistance under both oxidizing and reducing conditions, resists oxidation and attack by high-temperature corrosive media, and resists chloride stress corrosion cracking even in the precipitation-hardened state.

Industrial Applications
Application Areas: Because of its ability to maintain useful properties under varying extreme conditions, INCONEL Alloy X-750 is used in many different industrial applications. For example, in various components of gas turbines, including rotor blades. It is also used in large pressure vessels, heat treatment fixtures, aircraft thrust reversers and hot air duct systems, forming tools, extrusion dies, nuclear reactors and test machine fixtures. It is also used in rocket engine thrusters, where the metal must withstand tremendous pressure and heat.

Age Hardening Process: This is key because it gives the alloy the strength required for use in high-pressure situations, such as in offshore deep well reserves. Many downhole and wellhead equipment components, such as hangers, downhole safety valves, pumps and packers, require age hardening of the alloy to ensure that the material is strong enough to withstand heavy pressure.

Heat Treatment
Heat Treatment: Depending on the end use, this alloy will undergo different heat treatments. For example, if used in temperatures exceeding 1100°F and under heavy loads, the alloy will undergo solution treatment, stabilization treatment, and precipitation treatment. For lower temperature ranges, its strength is enhanced by precipitation treatment after hot or cold working, or precipitation treatment after homogenization or solution treatment. In some cases, furnace cooling can be used.
