Inconel 601 vs. Inconel 625: A Comprehensive Comparison

Inconel 601 vs. Inconel 625: A Comprehensive Comparison
Due to its aluminum content, Inconel 601 exhibits excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance, making it an ideal material for furnace components. Inconel 625, on the other hand, offers superior overall corrosion resistance, particularly suitable for marine and chemical environments. Its addition of molybdenum and niobium elements results in higher strength and greater resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, making it more suitable for harsh and complex environments, albeit at a higher cost. For heat treatment applications, choose 601; for challenging chemical/marine environments, choose 625.
Is Inconel 601 magnetic?
Inconel 601 is a non-magnetic nickel-chromium alloy. Its properties include high-temperature strength comparable to 18-8 alloys and high corrosion resistance to organic and inorganic corrosive agents. Alloy 601 performs well in a temperature range from extremely low temperatures up to 2000°F.

Inconel 601 is a nickel-chromium-iron alloy strengthened and protected at high temperatures through the addition of aluminum. Its core characteristic is its exceptionally excellent resistance to oxidation, carburization, and sulfidation at extreme temperatures up to approximately 1250°C, while maintaining superior high-temperature strength and thermal stability. It is specifically designed for environments requiring long-term exposure to high-temperature corrosive atmospheres, such as high-temperature heat treatment equipment, industrial furnace components, combustion systems, petrochemical cracking tubes, and aerospace hot-end components. It is particularly suitable for harsh conditions involving alternating oxidation and reduction, making it a top-tier material for solving high-temperature oxidation and thermal fatigue problems.
Inconel 625 is a nickel-chromium-based high-temperature alloy strengthened by solid solution hardening with molybdenum and niobium. Its core advantage lies in its comprehensive and superior corrosion resistance and high strength. It not only exhibits excellent resistance to both oxidizing and reducing media, but is also particularly adept at resisting pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, and chloride stress corrosion cracking. With its outstanding high-temperature strength (up to approximately 980°C) and resistance to creep and fatigue, it is widely used in extreme corrosive and high-temperature environments in marine engineering, aerospace, chemical and environmental protection, and energy sectors, making it a top-tier engineering alloy with broader and more robust performance than Inconel 600.
