Incoloy 800H VS Inconel 601 materials

Incoloy 800H is an iron-based alloy containing approximately 30-35% nickel, suitable for moderate high-temperature environments; while Inconel 601 is a nickel-based alloy (nickel content greater than 58%) containing approximately 21-25% chromium and 1-1.7% aluminum, possessing excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance and carburization resistance. Therefore, Inconel 601 is more suitable for extreme high-temperature environments. In contrast, Incoloy 800H strikes a balance between cost and performance, making it suitable for demanding environments such as chemical processing. Furthermore, Incoloy generally has processing characteristics similar to stainless steel, making it easier to machine.

What is the maximum operating temperature of INCOLOY 800H?

The 800H alloy exhibits good creep rupture properties at temperatures above 1100°F (600°C). Due to its maximum titanium and aluminum content of 0.7%, it maintains good ductility even after prolonged use at temperatures below 1290°F (700°C). For applications below 1100°F (600°C), the standard annealed 800 alloy is recommended.

Incoloy 800H (UNS N08810)
Main advantages: Excellent high-temperature creep strength, stress rupture strength, and resistance to carburization/oxidation. Better weldability.
Best applications: Furnace components, heat exchangers, process piping, carburizing fixtures, electric heating elements.

Inconel 601 (UNS N06601)
Main advantages: Due to its high nickel and aluminum content, it possesses excellent high-temperature strength and outstanding resistance to oxidation, thermal fatigue, and carburization.
Best applications: Radiant tubes, furnace linings, burner nozzles, heating elements, aerospace components.

Main Differences
Basic Composition: Incoloy 800H is an iron-based alloy; Inconel 601 is a nickel-based alloy.
Nickel Content: Inconel 601 has a much higher nickel content (>60%) than Incoloy 800H (approximately 30-35%).
Performance Focus: 800H excels in creep resistance and carburization resistance; 601 excels in oxidation resistance and overall high-temperature strength.
Applications: 800H is used for furnace components/piping; 601 is used in extremely high-temperature areas, such as burner components/radiant tubes.
