Difference Between Inconel 601 & 625 Sheet Plate

Difference Between Inconel 601 & 625 Sheet Plate
Inconel 601 plates exhibit excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance and good strength, making them an ideal material for manufacturing furnace components. Inconel 625 plates, due to the addition of molybdenum and niobium, possess superior overall corrosion resistance (especially against chlorides/seawater), higher strength, and better fatigue resistance, making them more suitable for harsher wet/corrosive environments such as those found in marine, chemical, and aerospace applications, even though Inconel 601 alloy plates have a slight advantage in pure high-temperature oxidation resistance.
Does Inconel 625 undergo work hardening?
Machining Inconel 625 is an extremely challenging task because this material has low thermal conductivity, is prone to work hardening, and maintains its strength even at high temperatures. Due to its excellent corrosion and heat resistance, this superalloy is widely used in the aerospace and oil and gas industries.

Inconel 601 plate is a sheet material rolled from a nickel-chromium-iron-aluminum reinforced alloy (Inconel 601). Its core characteristic is its unparalleled resistance to oxidation, carburization, and high-temperature sulfur corrosion at extreme temperatures up to approximately 1250°C, while maintaining good formability and weldability. It is designed for demanding environments where sheet materials are exposed to severe oxidizing-reducing atmospheres and thermal cycling, such as high-temperature heat treatment furnaces, industrial combustion systems, petrochemical cracking units, and aerospace hot-end components. It is a key material for manufacturing ultra-high-temperature components such as furnace linings, radiant tubes, and high-temperature fixtures.
Inconel 625 plate is a nickel-chromium-based high-temperature alloy plate reinforced with molybdenum and niobium. Its core value lies in its comprehensive and superior corrosion resistance, effectively resisting pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, chloride stress corrosion cracking, and oxidizing and reducing acid media. It also possesses excellent high-temperature strength (up to approximately 980°C) and creep resistance. It provides reliable solutions for applications in marine engineering, demanding chemical processing, flue gas desulfurization systems, and aerospace, where sheet materials are required as structural components, containers, or linings in extreme corrosive and high-temperature environments. It is a top-tier engineering material with superior overall performance compared to Inconel 600 plate.

Summary of the main differences between Inconel 601 and 625 alloy plates:
Corrosion resistance: Due to the presence of molybdenum and niobium, 625 alloy plates exhibit superior performance in resistance to pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, and chloride stress corrosion cracking.
Strength: 625 alloy plates generally have higher tensile strength and fatigue strength under various conditions.
Heat resistance: 601 alloy plates are more suitable for extreme high-temperature/oxidizing environments; 625 alloy plates perform well, but in some specific high-temperature oxidation scenarios, 601 alloy plates may perform better.
Key applications: 601 alloy plates are suitable for high-temperature/furnace environments; 625 alloy plates are suitable for corrosive chemical environments, marine, and aerospace applications.
