Comprehensive guide to nickel-based superalloys: Inconel 601 (Alloy 601/UNS N06601)

Comprehensive guide to nickel-based superalloys: Inconel 601 (Alloy 601/UNS N06601)

Inconel 601 (UNS N06601) nickel-based alloy has a chromium content of 21.0-25.0% and a nickel content of about 72%. Inconel 601 (UNS N06601) nickel-based alloy has strong oxidation resistance, high temperature resistance and corrosion resistance. It also has high mechanical properties at high temperatures. Inconel 601 (UNS N06601) nickel-based alloy has high high-temperature strength, excellent oxidation resistance, carburization resistance and sulfur resistance. Especially in environments with rapid temperature changes and repeated oxidation, it has excellent anti-peeling properties. Therefore, it is widely used in various heat treatment furnace components, diesel vehicle glow plug components, etc.
Designated UNS N06601 or W.Nr. 2.4851, Inconel 601 (also known as "Alloy 601") is a nickel-chromium-iron alloy with added aluminum that provides excellent resistance to oxidation and other forms of high-temperature corrosion and improves Nitriding resistance. It also has high mechanical properties at high temperatures. Inconel 601 can be used in industrial furnaces, heat treatment equipment such as baskets, muffles and retorts, drawn annealed tubes, petrochemical and other process equipment, burner nozzles, gas turbine equipment, superheater tube supports and grid barriers for power plant piping, ETC.

Properties of Inconel 601 (Alloy 601/UNS N06601)
(1) Excellent high temperature oxidation resistance.
(2) Good carbonation resistance.
(3) Very good resistance to oxidizing sulfur atmosphere.
(4) Good room temperature and high temperature mechanical properties.
(5) Good resistance to stress corrosion cracking. Due to the control of carbon content and grain size, 601 has high creep rupture strength, so it is recommended to use 500 in areas above 601°C.
Corrosion resistance of Inconel 601 (Alloy 601/UNS N06601)
The oxidation resistance can reach 1180℃. Even under very harsh conditions, such as during heating and cooling cycles.
It can produce a dense oxide film layer and obtain high peeling resistance.
Good resistance to carbonation.
Due to its high chromium and aluminum content, the alloy has good oxidation resistance in high-temperature sulfur atmospheres.
