What are the differences between Inconel 601 and Inconel 600?
Both Inconel 600 and 601 are high-temperature nickel alloys, but Inconel 601 contains added aluminum, giving it superior high-temperature oxidation/carburization resistance, making it ideal for furnace applications. Inconel 600, on the other hand, offers broader general corrosion resistance, better resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, and lower cost, making it suitable for chemical processing and marine environments. The key difference lies in the higher aluminum content of 601, which enhances its thermal stability, while 600 provides a general and cost-effective solution for less demanding conditions, although 601 also exhibits higher creep strength.

Containing approximately 61% nickel, 23% chromium, and 1.4% aluminum, it offers exceptional oxidation resistance and durability, with a maximum operating temperature of up to 2200°F (1200°C). This alloy rod is ideal for use in reactors, heat exchangers, and piping systems, performing exceptionally well in corrosive environments such as those involving sulfuric or hydrochloric acid. Its ability to withstand thermal cycling and maintain strength makes it a reliable choice. Inconel 601 alloy rods primarily consist of nickel (58-63%) and chromium (21-25%), with the addition of aluminum (1-1.7%) to improve oxidation resistance. The remaining components are iron, along with small amounts of carbon, manganese, silicon, copper, sulfur, and phosphorus, giving it excellent high-temperature strength and oxidation resistance.
