What is Monel 400 Nickel Alloy?
Monel 400 alloy is a nickel-copper alloy that has high strength over a wide temperature range up to 1000 F. It is considered a ductile nickel-copper alloy that resists a wide range of corrosive conditions. This alloy is most often used in environments ranging from mildly oxidizing to neutral to moderately reducing. Other areas of application for this material are marine environments and other non-oxidizing chloride solutions. Like commercially pure nickel, Monel 400 has low strength in the annealed state, so various tempers are used to achieve higher strength levels. Monel 400 is one of the few alloys that retains strength at subzero or cryogenic temperatures, so it is often used in these applications.
