ASTM B167 Inconel 690 Steam Generator Heat Transfer Seamless Tube

ASTM B167 Inconel 690 is the standard for seamless nickel-chromium-iron alloy tubing for steam generators due to its high strength, excellent corrosion resistance in hot water, and resistance to stress corrosion cracking. With a high chromium content of approximately 30%, this alloy offers excellent corrosion resistance, making it an ideal choice for nuclear power plants and other high-stress, high-temperature environments.

What is INCONEL 690?

INCONEL alloy 690 (UNS N06690/W. No. 2.4642) is a high-chromium nickel alloy with excellent resistance to a variety of corrosive aqueous media and high-temperature environments. In addition to its corrosion resistance, 690 alloy also offers high strength, good metallurgical stability, and good machinability.

ASTM B167 Regulations
Material Standards: ASTM B167 is a specification for seamless nickel-chromium-iron alloy tubing, including UNS N06690 (Inconel 690).
Chemical Composition and Mechanical Properties: This standard specifies the material's required chemical composition, mechanical properties (such as yield strength and tensile strength), and delivery conditions.
Testing and Certification: This standard requires that each seamless tubing undergo rigorous hydrostatic testing. Suppliers must also provide a material test certificate detailing the chemical composition and properties before shipment.
Marking: Tubing is typically marked with the standard, grade, size, specification, and heat batch number.

Key Features and Applications
High Corrosion Resistance: Inconel 690 is designed to resist all types of corrosion, particularly stress corrosion cracking in high-temperature water, which is critical to the service life of nuclear power plant steam generator components. It also offers excellent resistance to oxidation and other corrosive environments.
High-Temperature Strength: The alloy maintains high strength and durability even at elevated temperatures, enabling it to withstand the rigors of steam generation.
Seamless Construction: The seamless design ensures a smooth, continuous surface, minimizing the risk of leaks and maximizing efficiency.
Nuclear Industry Use: Due to its excellent performance in high-temperature water and superior resistance to stress corrosion cracking compared to other alloys such as Inconel 600, it is widely used in steam generator tubes, baffles, and tube sheets in nuclear power plants.

About Gnee Steel

Gnee Steel specializes in the production of various nickel-based alloys. Gnee Steel's product packaging includes steel strapping: Pipes with an outer diameter of 3 inches or less are typically strapped together with polypropylene film to prevent rust during sea transportation, and then secured with steel strapping. Wooden boxes/crates: Pipes are typically packaged in wooden boxes or crates to protect them during transportation, especially those that are longer or have larger diameters. Seaworthy export packaging: Suppliers typically use standard seaworthy export packaging methods, which may include a variety of materials and techniques to protect the pipes during transportation. Tarpaulin packaging: This prevents rainwater, seawater, and other external factors from penetrating the export wooden crates during transportation. Gnee Steel specializes in the production and sale of alloy materials. Gnee Steel's products are widely used in aerospace, chemical, power, automotive, nuclear, and other industries, and we can provide customized alloy material solutions based on customer needs.
