This material can be hardened only by cold working and can be used in the annealed or stress-relieved condition.

What are the standards for Monel 400 pipe?
This grade of nickel-copper alloy is available in ASTM B165 and B725 specifications. Pipe is available in seamless, welded, electric-resistance-welded, and fabricated forms. ASME SB165 Monel 400 seamless pipe conforms to ASTM, ASME, and API standards and is available in nominal inside diameter sizes ranging from 15 inches to 150 inches.

ASTM B165 Monel 400 alloy cold-rolled tubing is a nickel-copper alloy resistant to high-temperature seawater and steam, as well as saline and alkaline solutions. Monel 400 is a nickel-copper alloy with excellent corrosion resistance in a wide range of media. Monel 400 offers good corrosion resistance, excellent weldability, and medium to high strength. This alloy is used in a wide variety of applications. It exhibits excellent resistance to fast-flowing brackish or seawater, and is particularly resistant to degassed hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids. The alloy is slightly magnetic at room temperature. Monel 400 is widely used in the chemical, petroleum, and marine industries.
Properties of ASTM B165 UNS N04400 Cold-Rolled Tubing
Corrosion resistance in a wide range of marine and chemical environments, from pure water to non-oxidizing mineral acids, salts, and alkalis. This alloy is more resistant to nickel under reducing conditions and better than copper under oxidizing conditions, but its resistance in reducing media is better than in oxidizing media.
It exhibits good mechanical properties at temperatures ranging from sub-zero to approximately 480°C.
It exhibits good resistance to sulfuric and hydrofluoric acids. However, aeration increases the corrosion rate. It can handle hydrochloric acid, but the presence of oxidizing salts greatly accelerates corrosion.
This alloy exhibits resistance to neutral, alkaline, and acidic salts, but has poor resistance to oxidizing acidic salts (such as ferric chloride).
It has excellent resistance to chloride ion stress corrosion cracking.
