Heat Treatment: This includes a solution annealing step and precipitation hardening. A common method is solution annealing at 1700-1850°F, followed by precipitation hardening at 1325°F and a hold at 1150°F.
Machining: The high hardness makes machining difficult and accelerates tool wear, so proper machining procedures are required.
Cleaning: The alloy must be thoroughly cleaned before heating for machining to prevent the formation of an oxide layer.
Furnace Atmosphere: For processes such as forging, the furnace atmosphere should be slightly reducing, containing at least 2% carbon monoxide.
