Uns N06600 Alloy Bar description

GNEE Inconel 600 Bar
Inconel 600 bar is a high-performance nickel-chromium-iron superalloy with a typical composition of ≥72% nickel, 14–17% chromium, and 6–10% iron. It operates across a temperature range extending from cryogenic levels up to 1095°C (2000°F), maintaining its mechanical properties and resistance to high-temperature oxidation throughout this range. Regarding corrosion resistance, it is virtually immune to chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking and exhibits high resistance to a wide variety of organic and inorganic compounds.
The alloy is primarily strengthened through cold working rather than precipitation hardening, and it is readily weldable and machinable. Common specifications include AMS 5665 / AMS 5540 (aerospace standards) and ASTM B166 / ASME SB166 (standards for rod and bar).

Hot Rolled and Cold drawn Process of Nickel 600 Round Bar

Hot Rolled and Cold drawn Process of Nickel 600 Round Bar
Our Inconel 600 bars are manufactured using precision metallurgical processes to ensure consistency, strength, and durability:
🔩 Raw Material Selection
We select high-purity nickel, chromium, and iron, verifying their compliance with 600 alloy composition standards.
🔥 Melting and Alloying
Raw materials are melted in a controlled furnace and alloyed to obtain a uniform chemical structure and composition.
🧱 Hot Forging or Rolling
The alloy is hot-worked into bars by forging or rolling, thereby improving grain structure and mechanical strength.
🌊 Heat Treatment
Quenching and annealing processes are used to relieve stress and improve corrosion resistance and high-temperature performance.
🛠 Machining and Surface Finishing
The bars are precision-machined to meet dimensional tolerances and polished (bright, black, or satin finish).
🧪 Testing and Inspection
Each batch of products undergoes mechanical, chemical, and non-destructive testing (NDT)-including ultrasonic testing, pitting corrosion testing, and intergranular corrosion testing-to ensure quality.
📦 Packaging and Shipping
Finished bars are packaged in wooden crates, rolls, or films with core tubes to ensure safe and corrosion-free transportation.

Comparative Material Selection Analysis: Inconel 600 vs. Other Key Nickel-Based Alloy Grades
Overseas procurement often confuses Inconel 600, 625, and 718 nickel-based bars. Mismatches between materials and operating conditions lead to equipment failure and wasted costs. Drawing on 18 years of practical experience, this comparison clarifies the suitable applications for each grade:
| Alloy / Type | Strengthening Mechanism | Key Strengths | Limitations | Primary Applications |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Inconel 600 Bar (Solid‑Solution Heat‑Resistant Type) | Solid‑solution strengthening | High‑temperature oxidation resistance, carburization resistance, good workability, high cost‑effectiveness | Moderate high‑pressure strength and corrosion resistance | Furnace structural components, general chemical corrosion protection, high‑temperature static components |
| Inconel 625 Bar (Solid‑Solution Corrosion‑Resistant Type) | Solid‑solution strengthening (high Mo content) | Excellent corrosion resistance, outstanding high‑pressure performance | Higher cost | Marine environments, strong acid/alkali conditions, high‑pressure corrosive services; not required for general high‑temperature oxidation scenarios |
| Inconel 718 Bar (Precipitation‑Hardening High‑Strength Type) | Age‑hardening (γ' / γ'' precipitation) | Ultra‑high strength after heat treatment, excellent creep resistance | Difficult to machine, higher cost | Only for high‑pressure dynamic and aerospace load‑bearing conditions; not suitable for general corrosion‑protection furnace applications |

FAQ
Q1: What is the maximum high-temperature resistance of Inconel 600 bar? Is it suitable for furnace applications?
A: It offers stable performance during long-term service in oxidizing and carburizing atmospheres at temperatures up to 1093°C. It is a specialized bar stock designed for industrial heat treatment furnaces, carburizing furnaces, and high-temperature kilns, offering excellent suitability for furnace operating conditions.
Q2: Does Inconel 600 bar require heat treatment?
A: No age-hardening treatment is required; the material is supplied in a solution-annealed state, which is optimal for use. It can be directly machined (turned), welded, and formed, offering simple processing and strong adaptability for on-site applications.
Q3: How does Inconel 600 bar compare to 310S stainless steel bar in high-temperature applications?
A: 310S stainless steel is prone to embrittlement and has poor carburization resistance during long-term high-temperature service. In contrast, Inconel 600 bar maintains a stable microstructure at high temperatures and offers superior resistance to carburization and nitriding, resulting in an equipment service life 3–5 times longer than that of stainless steel.
Q4: What are the welding characteristics of Inconel 600 bar? Is it susceptible to intergranular corrosion?
A: It exhibits excellent welding performance. A strictly controlled low-carbon manufacturing process eliminates the risk of post-weld intergranular corrosion. The properties of the welded joints match those of the base metal, meeting the requirements for various structural welding applications.
Q5: Do you support custom processing and specifications for export?
A: Yes, we support services such as cut-to-length, precision grinding, straightening, and custom forging of irregular shapes. We can provide a full set of qualification documents in English to meet global engineering acceptance standards and facilitate long-term framework partnerships.
