Nickel alloy 625 and 825 grades are commonly used in boilers, heat exchangers, and condensers. A boiler is a container that heats a fluid. Contrary to what its name implies, a boiler does not boil said fluid. However, the temperature inside the boiler does increase. Therefore, ASTM B704 welded pipe (625/825) is required. Both of these nickel alloys are known for their resistance to high temperatures.
Both Inconel 625 and ASME SB704 825 Incoloy welded pipes offer strong corrosion resistance. At higher temperatures, most alloys are more susceptible to oxidation. Oxidation is a form of corrosion that causes rust to form on the alloy surface. However, Incoloy 825 and ASTM B704 Nickel 625 welded pipes have a higher chromium content in their chemical composition. The chromium in the nickel alloy causes a phenomenon called passivation on the surface of the ASTM B704 UNS N06625 welded pipe. The passive oxide layer reacts with oxygen in the atmosphere and prevents the SB 704 N08825 ERW welded pipe material from further oxidation. The reason why Inconel 625 and ASTM B704 Incoloy 825 welded pipe materials have extremely high heat resistance is because of the extremely high nickel content in the alloy. The nickel element improves the heat resistance of ASTM B704 welded pipe.
