ASTM B167 Inconel 600 corrosion-resistant material pipes description

GNEE ASTM B167 Inconel 600 corrosion-resistant material pipes
ASTM B167 Inconel 600 pipes are seamless pipes made from a nickel-chromium alloy with high corrosion and temperature resistance, suitable for use in extreme environments ranging from cryogenic to 1000°C. Their excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking and oxidation makes them ideal for demanding applications in industries such as chemical processing, aerospace, and nuclear engineering. The standard requires these pipes to pass a hydrostatic pressure test and be provided with a material test certificate.
ASME B163 covers seamless nickel and nickel alloy tubing for condensers and heat exchangers. This standard covers outside diameter and average wall thickness, or outside diameter and minimum wall thickness. Tubing shall be of the alloys and conditions specified in this specification. The material shall conform to the specified compositional limits for nickel, copper, molybdenum, iron, manganese, carbon, silicon, chromium, aluminum, titanium, phosphorus, cerium, zirconium, yttrium, boron, cobalt, niobium, tungsten, and nitrogen. The material's tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, and Rockwell hardness shall meet the mechanical property requirements of this specification. Test methods such as chemical analysis, tensile strength, rounding procedure, Rockwell hardness, grain size, and hardness conversion shall be performed.
Inconel 601 Corrosion Resistance: One of the key properties of 601 is its ability to withstand high temperatures, even under the most severe conditions. During heating and cooling cycles, 601 steel forms a dense oxide scale that resists spalling. 601 steel also exhibits good resistance to carburization. Its high chromium and aluminum contents provide excellent oxidation resistance in high-temperature, sulfur-containing atmospheres.

FAQ
Q: What is the difference between Inconel 625 and Inconel 600?
A: Inconel 600 is a nickel-chromium alloy known for its excellent high-temperature strength and oxidation resistance, while Inconel 625 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy that offers excellent corrosion resistance, especially in chloride environments, and higher strength, especially at high temperatures. Inconel 600 is a cost-effective choice for high-temperature furnaces and chemical processing applications, while 625 is better suited for more demanding applications such as marine, petrochemical, and aerospace.
Q: What is the difference between Inconel 600 and 718?
A: Inconel 600 excels in corrosion resistance and formability, making it suitable for chemical processing and marine applications. Inconel 718, on the other hand, boasts exceptional high-temperature strength and creep resistance, making it a preferred choice for aerospace and oil and gas applications.
Q: What is the difference between Inconel 601 and 600?
A: Inconel 600 offers excellent tensile strength and resistance to stress corrosion cracking, making it well-suited for high-stress environments. On the other hand, Inconel 601 has slightly lower tensile strength but offers superior oxidation resistance due to its aluminum content.
